Amy Winehouse's husband admits 'dragging' her into drugs

Blake Fielder-Civil said he was too weak to stop her

Amy Winehouse's jailed husband has reportedly admitted that he introduced the singer to hard drugs.

Blake Fielder-Civil, who was released from prison earlier this month after serving a 27-month prison sentence for assault, said he "dragged Amy into it (drugs)" and "without me there is no doubt that she would never have gone down that road".

"I made the biggest mistake of my life by taking heroin in front of her,” he added.

"I introduced her to heroin, crack cocaine and self-harming. I feel more than guilty."

Fielder-Civil also said he was too weak to stop the Grammy award winning singer from trying hard drugs.

He told the News Of The World: "The first time Amy took crack she asked me, 'Can I try a bit of that?'.

"Crack is the nastiest drug. It makes you paranoid, unreasonable, edgy and totally suspicious of everyone.

"And you can get hooked on it straight away. But I was weak and an addict and I let Amy take some."

Fielder-Civil also said he was terrified when she suffered a seizure just months into their marriage last year.

"I was there when Amy suffered her first seizure. I still break down thinking about it. We had been taking drugs all day long — heroin and crack," he added.

"Then my wife, who I love with all my heart and soul, just started shaking violently in front of me. I started crying and I lay her down in the recovery position. I cleared her airways to make sure she wasn’t choking.

"But her jaw was closed tight. I tried to stop her from biting her tongue when she was on the floor.

"It was heartbreaking, seeing someone you love more than yourself, someone you would die for, someone you would kill for on the floor shaking."

He is currently undergoing a course of rehab at a clinic in Surrey under the terms of his early release.

Singer Amy Winehouse in hospital

Singer Amy Winehouse is being treated at a private London clinic after a reaction to medication she was taking, her spokesman has said.

The singer was taken to the facility after she fell ill on Sunday.

"Some part of her medication is making her sick," spokesman Chris Goodman said. The medication formed "part of her ongoing treatment", he added.

Winehouse, 25, missed a court appearance by husband Blake Fielder-Civil on Monday because of her illness.

He lost an appeal against his prison sentence for assaulting a pub landlord.

Mr Fielder-Civil, 26, of Camden, north London, was sentenced to 27 months for assaulting James King at the Macbeths pub in Hoxton, east London, in 2006.

The music video assistant, who was freed on 5 November, also admitted perverting the course of justice by trying to bribe Mr King to withdraw his complaint.

New album

In June, it emerged that Winehouse had developed the chronic lung disease emphysema after she collapsed in her north London home.

In July, she collapsed again following a reaction to medication and was taken to London's University College Hospital.

And, in August, she pulled out of a concert in Paris after she was taken ill at home, although she did not need hospital treatment.

Winehouse has been working on a new studio album, the first since 2006's Back to Black.

Earlier this month, Lucian Grange, the head of Winehouse's record label Universal, said new material he had heard for the album sounded "sensational".

Take That 'write a song about Amy Winehouse'

Take That have written a new song, :How Did It Come To This," which fans are speculating is about the plight of Amy Winehouse.

The song, set to feature on the band's new album The Circus, features lyrics that seem to allude to the life of the troubles singer, described as "a girl in Camden Town."

According to Britain's The Sun the lyrics include the line: "Slightly schizophrenic…slightly OCD."

Other lyrics include: "All this noise and all these lights, all this talking through the night, all this expectation now it's making me neurotic, tell me have I seen your face before? How did it come to this?"

The Circus is set to be released on December 1.
